Palazzo della Corgna. Built in1560 and the home of the Della Corgna family for 100 years, this palatial residence was decorated starting in 1574 by Niccolò Circignani (Pomarancio) with frescoes depicting mythological and historical themes.
“CASTIGLIONE IN THE TIMES OF THE DELLA CORGNA” is a museum route made up of 3 sections starting with “Diomede della Corgna – a small court with a great history” presenting the figure of the arts patron within the context of his era. The second section is called “From il Perugino to the Mannerist Age –art and artists in the times of the Della Corgna,” while the third section is entitled “Nicolò Circignani and the artists at the palace – fresco cycles of history, legend and fantastical vision,” featuring frescoes painted from sketches made by Circignani and dedicated to Ascanio Della Corgna’s deeds, six of which will be shown to the public for the first time, as well as originals housed at Oxford University.
Opening times: 10:00-13:30 and from 15:30-19:00. Tickets will be sold up 45 minutes from closing time. Private tours in off hours can be requested.
