This summer sunset walk will take us over the hills near Migliano (Marsciano). From the Valverde we will ascend to the Rigo river and then walking past golden fields of grain and through woods we’ll reach Monteagello, an ancient village along the old road that leads to Orvieto. As the sun sets we’ll be walking over a dirt road until we return to our point of departure.
Please wear appropriate walking clothes (long trousers recommended) and footwear, and bring plenty of water.
There will be a delicious dinner, for those who desire to join us, at the Valverde’s restaurant. The dinner will cost €20 with a menu as follows:

Sunday 13 July – Between the Tiber and its hills: river sunsets
Meeting time: 5pm at the Parlesca station

You can reach the Parlesca station taking the Resina exit from the E45 and then heading towards Parlesca.
The walk begins surrounded by fields of ripening crops towards the Solfagnano hills past Villa Bennicelli, a walled in town with the San Silvestro church.

Those who do not dine can reach their car easily (500 m from where the dinner is).

Sunday 20 July – The hills between S. Feliciano and S. Savino: facing the lake
Sunday 27 July – Up high around Preggio
Meeting point: in Preggio, parking lot just outside town headed towards Umbertide.
Meeting Time: 4:45 pm
Walk duration: 3½ hrs
Walk distance: 10 km
Total climb: 400 m
You can easily reach Preggio from Perugia along the Perugia Bettolle motorway, exit at Torricella and follow the signs for Castel Rigone. Once there follow the signs for Umbertide and, at the fork in the road 3km later, stay left for Preggio. Just before the town itself, on the right, there is a large parking lot where you can leave your car.
The walk starts over the main road but soon we reach a dirt road that goes down to the lovely Stipa mill, in the bottom of the little valley. We cross over the Bellona river several times, which should not be a problem in terms of water level.
We then reach the lovely Pian di Marte, whose fame dates to the Battle of Trasimene. The walk then goes up through a woods over a path to the crest from which we’ll watch the sun setting over the lake, and then we’ll walk back to Preggio.
At the end of the excursion you can stay on and enjoy Preggio nel Tempo, a festival featuring ancient games and flavours. There will be food stands and places to sit. Dancing on the piazza follows, and the evening ends with a giant bonfire.
Bring plenty of water, a sun hat and walking shoes.
